I have a green pool and used algaecide (whole bottle) and bag of shock! I did this at about 4 p.m.?
It has been about 16 hours and the pool is still green! How long does it usually take to clear up? What else should we do? Please HELP!!! It did rain really hard last night (Don’t know if that matters!)
Already took a sample to the pool place! They said all chemicals looked balanced so this is what they said to do.
The combination of shock and algaecide usually takes about 36 hours to work to its capacity. So you may want to allow more time. We’re looking for a change in color, the green should lighten – eventually turning to a cloudy milky white. The flocculent idea is not a bad one if you can vacuum to waste (but definitely not other wise). By using the floc, we’re removing material physically, so we have less to treat chemically.
Here is the treatment for killing GREEN algae (others are tougher to kill and have different treatments): Be sure your pH is in the good range, brush the sides and bottom of the pool. Add double or even triple your normal shock dose, and allow that to circulate for an hour. At that point, add a good troubleshooting algaecide (not a preventive – we need something stronger). Allow the combination of shock and algaecide 36 hours to work to its capacity. If you still have green material in the pool, repeat the brush – double shock – algaecide cycle. It is not a lot of fun, but I don’t think you need to pay for a pool service and their chemicals to fix this problem.

Whenever I had this problem I always took a little bottle of the water into the pool place, they helped me out. Good luck!

Sorry to tell you but you prob. need a pool tech to come out and diagnose growth, our pool was staying green and it turned out to be a really tough to kill algae, something we had to get special stuff for. Call a pool person asap, this will save you money and frustration if it is something you cannot get rid of on your own

Are you running the filter? Maybe you need to back wash, you could have a backup in the filter and it can’t clean anymore!!

c add floculant to your pool run pump for a short while to mix in well turn off pump and let sit over night next morning gently(so as not to stir up water)vacuum from pool but don’t circulate water back in pool let it discharge the water
