What should I do for my Career Project?
Im in the 8th grade, we have to do a career project of what career you’re interested in, Lawyer, Doctor, etc. I am very into sports, but I also like crime justice and stuff like that so I thought of picking FBI or CIA but im not sure what I should do, I want to do something sports related. We are going on a Dc trip. And we need help.?
Our class of 6 (2 chaperones) are going to DC for 3 days.

We will arrive there at 12:30 on the 24th of March and leaving at 1:00 on the 26th of March.

On the First day: We want to go to the Supreme Court, Capitol, Library of Congress, and the Washington Monument. Is that ridiculous? (We have a tour set up for the Capitol)

On Day 2: We want to go to Arlington National Cemetery at 8:00am. Then the LIncoln Memorial. the American History, Natural History, and the Holocaust Museum. Is that ridiculous?

On day 3: We will be touring the white House. (already talked the our Senator)

Also we need to find some good (yet under $10.00) resturants or delis and such that are in the National Mall or very close! ( that is the main thing we need)

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express National Arboretum (Northeast) has anyone heard reviews or stayed there?

Can we get all of this done in 3 days? Is this possible? Please help us

I think your itinerary is unrealistic. Remember that it will take at least 30 minutes to move from one attraction to another and some may take longer to get to. Given that the museums are open from 10 to 530 (or so) you’re looking at very little time available to actually see anything. Add in the time it takes to find and eat a meal and you have even less time. I would recommend picking a few of the things you and your group really want to see and taking your time. I think you’d spend the whole time being stressed about getting on to the next thing on your list and wouldn’t have time to enjoy what you’re seeing.

I have not stayed in that particular hotel but it’s really not in a very good area of town and it’s not really close to the metro.

I’m afraid so. As the other person pointed out, it takes time to get from one place to another (unless someone is an expert at teleportation). It also takes time to tour the places if you really want to see anything. I imagine that extending your trip is not a possibility, so you will have to scale back on what you want to see.

I’d skip the Washington Monument. I understand it’s not much to see. Try to see the Capitol and the Supreme Court instead.

As for day 2, that’s way too much. Seeing both Arlington and the Lincoln Memorial is a possiblity–although the Lincoln Memorial is a good eight blocks from the Foggy Bottom station. But getting into the Holocaust Museum will be almost impossible if you don’t line up early or have advance tickets. It also takes hours to go through if you really want to get a grasp of the exhibits.

So try Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and maybe ONE museum.

As for what to eat, the museums do have cafes, but they’re not particularly good. Sadly, dining options near the National Mall and the visitor areas, for lack of a better term, are lacking. For the first day, you may be able to walk to Union Station where there’s a food court.

I’ve not heard reviews of the Holiday Inn near the Arboretum, but it’s not anywhere near what you’re seeing, and getting to and from your hotel will take quite a bit of time. You might want to try to find a hotel that’s more central. Try something in Arlington or Alexandria.

I’d suggest you do research about that Holiday Inn Express location. It’s in a bad part of town, and is along a strip of hotels that, over the years, have been regularly used as emergency housing for people on welfare. It’s also far from any Metro station, or from any other tourist services.

Here are some reviews from TripAdvisor. Sounds like the hotel is okay and they do run a shuttle service to Union Station.
